Bee Season - Life Cycle, Identification & Control

Bee swarms can be intimidating. They happen when the queen leaves a hive and workers from the colony go with her. The bees are fairly docile during this time but will respond if provoked. Swarms stop to rest for short times.

Scientists refer to the bees lifecycle as complete metamorphosis. It becomes larva after hatching from the egg. Here it molts several times before maturing into an adult. The adult bees immediately go to work.

Two of the honeybees natural predators include the Varroa and tracheal mites. Varroa mites pierce the skin and feed on blood. Diseases are transmitted this way. Tracheal mites get into the respiratory system and burrow out.
