Firebrats

Firebrats are closely related to silverfish in their body style and feeding habits. The firebrat, however, can only be found where temperatures are in excess of 90 degrees F. and above.

Firebrats are flat, teardrop-shaped insects, usually about a half an inch in length. These insects also have unique bristles on their tails. Firebrats are very fast runners and can commonly be found in high-heat areas, like boiler rooms, fireplaces, hot-water heaters, and near ovens

Firebrats feed on natural and synthetic fibers, books and paper. They can leave markings that appear as etchings on paper or yellow stains on linens. Controlling firebrats can be difficult. Seek out the help of a pest-control professional if you have an infestation.
