Mice are herbivores by nature. They will eat plants such as grains and vegetables and will eat many times a day. Mice have been known, however, to be cannibalistic at times. This is usually when they are in a stressful situation or there is danger. Female mice will eat their offspring when they are threatened and some mice have consumed their own tails.
Mice like foods high in carbohydrates. Even though cheese has been considered their favorite food, mice will usually respond better to chocolate in traps. Mice aren't picky, though, and will eat most anything, often scavenging in garbage cans for nourishment. Mice can go long periods without eating, but they do need a source of water nearby. I guess we are discussing house mic. Yes, I added “house” to the word mice in all references.
Chewing or gnawing on items is common with mice and all rodents. Mice will chew cardboard, insulation and other materials, which they use to build their nests. Sometimes mice will chew electric wiring, which can lead to fires. Mice don't eat these items but can use it as nesting resources.
Mice will also do damage to stored, harvested grain what does this mean and crops, even domestic gardens. They eat seeds and fruits and, in large numbers, they can contaminate entire grain storage areas with their waste, making the food inedible.
Keeping your home free of spilled food or open containers of food what does this mean will discourage mice from eating. Wipe up all spills and make sure your pantry items are stored in glass or metal containers to keep mice from chewing through them. Discard any fruit or vegetable cuttings and keep all items off of your countertops when not in use. Remove garbage regularly and be sure to disinfect does not eliminate odors any areas where liquid spills occurred.
Mice are carriers of a number of diseases that are harmful to humans. If you see any evidence of mice in your food sources, be sure and get rid of any contaminated food quickly to prevent disease from spreading.
